One of Jersey City’s fastest-growing neighborhoods will be welcoming a trio of new companies as new leases have been signed inside a prominent Journal Square office building.
The KABR Group and Kushner recently announced that Alliance Community Healthcare, Hanger Prosthetics, and Inter-Con Security will be taking up residence inside their 26 Journal Square property. Situated across from the area’s PATH station and originally built in 1926, the Beaux Arts-style property was home to the Jersey Journal for decades before being sold to the companies.
The building has undergone a $5 million renovation in recent years that includes the addition of “The Vault,” a bank vault since transformed into a conference room and co-working lounge. Other upgrades include a lobby redesign, renovated elevator cabs with PurClean disinfecting technology, updated HVAC, and new bathrooms and fixtures on every floor.
“26 Journal Square’s complete transformation, with its truly unique lounge and upgrades to all commons areas sets our building above its competition,” said Michael Goldstein, Chief Operating Officer of The KABR Group. “26 Journal Square’s tenants and their visitors continue to be impressed.”
The three leases total a combined 9,365 square feet. Inter-Con Security signed a lease for 1,826 square feet, while Hanger Prosthetics agreed to 1,713 square feet. Alliance Community Healthcare upgraded and relocated to 26 Journal Square from another Journal Square location, taking up the remaining 5,826 square feet.
The building also hosts a Chipotle outpost on the ground floor and has an approved plan for a tower behind the existing structure. Dubbed 30 Journal Square, the latest 68-story tower was approved in 2019 and includes plans for a ground-floor market that would connect to the historic office building.
Kushner appears to have placed that project on the back burner in favor of their One Journal Square development, which finally broke ground earlier this year. The $1 billion project includes two towers consisting of 1,723 residential units, a revamped public plaza, and 40,000 square feet of retail space that will be anchored by a new Target store.
